Great News!
Great news! Well, at least it is great for me and Joe. Teddy didn’t show up (or even call for that matter) for his visitation last night. So, that means that me and Joe have Alex for the entire weekend. That makes me really happy, as I just hate saying goodbye to Alex..the house gets so empty without him.
Alex was waiting to go “bye byes” for 30 minutes last night. Even though Teddy is supposed to pick Alex up at 6pm, I give him until 6:30 in case there are traffic problems or something. Even still, at 6:30 there wasn’t any phone call or anything so Joe and I just took Alex and left. Alex was getting antsy because he knew he was supposed to be going since Joe and I told him that he would leave soon. We went out to Red Lobster for dinner, where Alex was allowed as much as he wanted of my all you can eat shrimp (even though he only ate 2 bites because I had given him a small dinner earlier) and then we went to Walmart to pick up some stuff. Got back around 9:30, checked the caller id, and still no call from Teddy.
The last time Teddy missed any visitation was a year ago while he was in jail for about a month and a half, so this actually surprised me. It surprised me even more as Teddy and his mother just fought me about having Alex for Halloween (even though it was my holiday) and I had sent a letter stating that they could have Veterans Day. I only got an email saying that the letter arrived too late (which I think is bullshit because Joe sent out a package at the same time that had to travel farther and that got to it’s destination earlier) and that they wouldn’t be taking the holiday but they are prepared to pick up Alex on the regular scheduled weekends. So they are prepared to pick up Alex, complain about not having him, and then just don’t show up to get him? Makes no sense to me, but ok..nothing I can do about it.
The good news is that Alex has no idea they didn’t pick him up. Although he does have a concept of so many days go by and then he sees them or Andy, he doesn’t really understand days of the week and specific times. So, he is a pretty happy kid, just playing and having fun.

Actually, I sent the letter and the package on Thursday. I sent the package from Baltimore to central West Virginia and it arrived on Monday. You would think the letter would arrive 25 miles away by at least then. But they claim it arrived on Wednesday. Yea, I’d say its bullshit.

I just had to comment, because my name happens to be Alex as well, and I had a very similar situation with a biological father who popped in and out of my life at random. I have dealt with a lot of heartbreak because of him, but I have also had the privilege of experiencing true fatherly love from my stepfather, who adopted me when I turned 18. I think you did a wonderful thing by taking the opportunity to have fun instead of making the night a bad experience. I wish I could offer some advice on why guys do the things they do, but I have never made any sense of it. I do know that hating him has never done me any good, even though I’ve practiced at it a LOT!
Anyway, it sounds like Alex has a great stepdad. I hope you won’t mind if I pray for my namesake. I hope things will turn out well for him.
