Modern Princess

Ah, well..

Well after spending all my extra time on the laptop the past day I finally have it all set up the way I like it! Woo, talk about a big project though. I always forget how much work a new computer takes. These days you can’t just start using it right out of the box. Nope, it needs an overhaul first.

I’ll walk you through the steps of the overhaul. The company you purchased from installs a lot of crap you don’t need or want on it, most of it being free trials in hopes that you will buy their or their affiliates products. So, you have to get rid of all of that. You can either remove each program individually, or you can just format the entire thing. If you format, you have to install a new operating system. Thus adding an extra step to the process. Either method you choose, it takes time. Then there is the all important making sure your computer is protected so you gotta install virus protection, set up firewalls, update with the latest security patches, etc. Next comes all the other basic things you need with a computer that you take for granted. You install the office and graphic softwares of your choice. Then you gotta download the updates of those programs. Next comes your settings and file transfers from your old to your new computer. There are numerous ways to do this. Some methods require little to no thinking, you just hook the computers up and use your operating systems file transfer program. I chose to copy everything I wanted to cd, thus making a back up. Other methods require more creativity and work..either way you manage to muddle through and get it done. Next you install all the games and extra software you just like to use. Depending on your preferences, that can take awhile just to install one game. Finally, and the most important part, you may now defrag your hard drive. A lot of people forget this step, but you just overhauled your computer..it needs love and care, so defrag it.

You may now enjoy your new computer! I know I’m enjoying mine!
