Modern Princess

18 Week Prenatal Appt.

Well, it is official.? I have gestational diabetes.? The results were 192, and normally they give you the three hour test if your results for the one hour are under 200 (over 200 and they diagnose you with gestational diabetes).? However, I took the test at 16 weeks and the number was so close to 200 they went ahead and called it gestational diabetes anyway.? Chances are I would have failed the 3 hour, and even if I passed I would have still had to take the one hour again later.? So it is just better this way, I suppose.? I got my prescription for my test strips and lancets and I can start checking my blood sugar again.? 4 times a day to start off with, and after awhile as long as I’m good at keeping everything in check I’ll be able to check only one or two times a day.

I’ve been craving a doughnut so badly, that once I heard I had failed the test the first words out of my mouth were “Man, I was really hoping I could have a doughnut.”? I guess the doctor felt sorry for me or something because he said that if I wanted to have a doughnut it was ok, I just had to be sure to start the diet tomorrow.? Needless to say my first stop after the appointment this morning was to Dunkin Donuts.? It was a tough trying to choose which doughnut I wanted knowing it would probably be my last for quite some time.? Ultimately I decided on the old standby, chocolate frosted.? I figured it could be awhile before I get to eat chocolate too, so I might as well enjoy both now.

The good news is that I scheduled my ultrasound.? On the morning of June 9th that baby better be ready to show the goods, because I want to know boy or girl!

hey…it’ll be okay…just watch your diet. Don’t be like me, and end up doing the insulin thing for 9 months…..
