Modern Princess

Lets talk about alcohol, baby.

When I first met Joe many years ago, I thought he was a regular drinker. Which kinda bothered me because I almost never drank, but as I never saw him drunk, I figured I could live with it. The reason I thought this? The bottle of Parrot Bay sitting on a shelf in his bedroom. Over the course of a few months I would see this bottle. It started out full, but with every visit the amount decreased, until finally the bottle was empty. Then one day, I saw the bottle was full again. I assumed he had bought himself a new bottle, and mentioned it to him. I don’t remember my exact words, but it was something like “I see you bought yourself a new bottle of Parrot Bay.” He kind of looked at me like I had two heads, and I explained to him that it had become sort of a hobby of mine at watching this bottle, and that the last time I saw it, it was empty. He had told me that he bought that bottle a long time before and only drank from it once, when he bought it. Well, that brought up the question, then why was the bottle suddenly full again and wait did it contain? The answer, water. Somebody, who we figured out and shall remain nameless, had been sneaking drinks of this bottle for those months I had been watching it, and then to hide the evidence, filled it with water.

Fast forward to now. Even though Joe and I aren’t regular drinkers, we do have a “liquor cabinet.” By “liquor cabinet” I mean that for that past three years it has consisted of an unopened bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey and a small bottle of Parrot Bay (not filled with water). It took us three years to finish that bottle of Parrot Bay, and the whiskey? Still unopened. Oh, and occasionally we buy a bottle of champagne for New Years. By occasionally I mean that there was this one time where we bought a bottle, fell asleep and didn’t drink it, and it sat around in the pantry for an entire year before we drank it at the next New Years.

No, I’m not kidding. This is how little we drink around here.

Anyway, last weekend I decided to stop at the liquor store to pick up another small bottle of Parrot Bay. I figured that even though it took us 3 years to drink it, we still drank it, which makes it good to have around. While there I also saw some peach schnapps, and figured “Hey, why not mix it up a bit and have something different w/ orange juice one in awhile.” I ended up leaving the store with a small bottle of each. So now we have three full bottles of alcohol in our “liquor cabinet.”

The ironic thing? We are out of orange juice.

Jack got an interesting link again!

What can I say, I’m not much of a drinker! Maybe we’ll finish off these bottles a little faster this time!
