A letter to the Press RE: the Inauguration.
Dear Press,
#1 – EVERY Election/Inauguration is historical.
Because obviously with the way you are bombarding every news story about how HISTORICAL this event is, I’m seriously beginning to think you don’t know this. George W. Bush is a part of history, Bill Clinton is a part of history, George H. W. Bush is a part of history, and many many presidents before are ALL a part of history. And come to think of it, I really don’t remember you making such a big deal over the HISTORICAL events that happened with the previous elections. So why this one? Oh wait, I remember now, which brings me to…
#2 – “Judge not by the color of the skin, but by the content of character.”
Have you forgotten this? Especially TODAY when a man who is being HONORED said this. Here you are announcing how historical this election is because he is the 1st African American President. That’s great, don’t get me wrong. But WHY ARE YOU, the press, KEEPING COUNT! Are you really that racist that you feel the need to point out how historical this is because of the color of his skin? And whats worse is you are pushing this racism on us, the American public, and more importantly OUR CHILDREN each and every time you point out how “HISTORY IS IN THE MAKING.” You are doing no less than telling our children to judge by the color of skin because all that matters right now is his skin makes him the 1st African American. If Martin Luther King Jr. really meant what he said, and I fully believe he did, I wonder if he would spit on each and every one of you if he was alive today. I’d like to think he would. Because I also have a dream. I dream that I’ll do right in raising my kids to grow up and not even notice the color of skin when they look at a person, even if that person is the President of the United States.
For future reference, if you really want to honor Martin Luther King Jr. and the next President, do it WITH CLASS. Cause these news stories just aren’t even close to what class is.
Sincerely,
Modern Princess
